
Doncaster sporting talent is ready to burst out of the blocks and head on down to the Keepmoat Stadium as there are just a few days left to register nominations for this year’s Sports Awards.
All nominations must be submitted by Friday 8th April to stand any chance of being included in the entries discussed by the judging panel.
With 12 categories to choose from, ranging from sports unsung heroes, team of the year to a lifetime achievement award - there really is something for everyone from a variety of different sporting backgrounds.
Some of this year’s award categories include:
Sports Personality of the Year
This award is to recognise an outstanding individual who has achieved, through sport, excellence and has represented their town, county or country in a way in which Doncaster can be proud. The Sports Personality will also be a strong role model for younger athletes to aspire to.
Lifetime Achievement Award
To recognise an individual who has either achieved in sport or who has helped others to fulfill their potential through their dedication to their given sport. This person will have enhanced the sporting profile of the region over a period of time.
Unsung Hero
This award is for someone who will have given time and care to help an individual or club without looking for personal gain. The award winner must have consistently shown tireless dedication and epitomise the true spirit of an unsung hero.
Coach/Manager of the Year (Amateur)
This award is to give recognition to a coach/manager who has demonstrated leadership and has improved the level of performance of a team, club, school or individual.
Sports Business of the Year
The criteria for this award is to give credit to a business which has either actively encouraged its staff to participate in a healthier lifestyle, or a company that promotes sporting activity within the borough.
The Keepmoat Stadium Sports Awards will take place on Friday 13th May at the popular venue, offering entertainment, a delicious two course dinner and a few celebrity guests thrown in for good measure!
Shane Chalmers, chief executive of the Stadium Management Company said: “We have been overwhelmed with the response to this year’s event, we have lots of nominations for every category – it just goes to show how much sporting talent there is in Doncaster!
“The event will be a wonderful celebration, recognising the spectacular achievements of sports people from Doncaster both from local amateur activities to our professional clubs.
“We want to hear from golfers, fishing champions, sprinters and darts teams - to swimmers, ice dancers, hockey players and gymnasts - absolutely everyone can get involved!
“Doncaster has a great sporting past but more importantly, it has a brilliant sporting present and future to look forward too. We want to celebrate not only our champions but as we edge ever closer to the 2012 Olympics, but our champions-in-waiting.”
